The Definitive Guide to Paleo Snacks

A lot of people in the Paleo community are against the concept of snacking.

Not me.

I believe there are times when the demands of the day or occasion mean you might need to eat a little bit more before or after your next meal. Besides, good Paleo snacks are far better than what I used to snack on before I was Paleo.

Quick Paleo Snacks

Here are some quick paleo snacks that don’t require any preparation at all. Just pick up and eat. Chances are that you will have at least one or two of these at home. If you don’t, then buy whatever looks interesting. Some of them, like a can of Tuna, Dark Chocolate or Pickled Gherkins can be bought and stored for months, others will have a shorter shelf life and should only be purchased if you are sure you will eat them sooner rather than later. For me, the best paleo snacks are the ones that don’t require any time or effort.

Easy Paleo Snacks

Now that instant gratification is out of the way, its time for some easy paleo snacks. These take a little more effort and preparation but are still easy and relatively quick.

  • Paleo Granola
  • Make your own Trail Mix
  • Fresh Fruit Salad
  • Nuts with Dried Fruit
  • Fruit Salad in Coconut Milk
  • Celery with Almond Butter
  • Berries with Whipped Coconut Cream

Paleo Snack Ideas and Combinations

Even with so many quick snacks, you might just want some rough ideas and use whatever it is you have. Let’s look at some basic paleo snack ideas and snack combinations that you could put together using different ingredients.

Almond Butter and Fruit/Vegetable
Simple. Take a tablespoon of Almond butter and like some of the Above combine it with a fruit or vegetable. The classic combinations are just that, classic, so don’t be afraid to try something different.

Paleo Hummus and a Vegetable/Chips
Make your own Paleo Hummus and combine it with whatever raw vegetables you have, or make your own Paleo Sweet Potato Chips /Zucchini chips.

Fruit Salad with Coconut Milk/Cream
Another easy one. Have any fruit at home? Chop them up and combine it in whatever combination makes sense to you. Have this on its own or with Coconut Milk. Another upgrade on the same idea is to freeze your Coconut Milk can and use the thick cream on top. Yummy.

Pickled Vegetables
My favorite pickled vegetables are Gherkins but there are so many others you can pickle. Carrots, Peppers are others that come to mind.

Berries and Melted Dark Chocolate
Another favorite of mine. I put some squares of Dark Chocolate into a bowl. Microwave for about a minute (try shorter, your mileage may vary). The bowl gets hot and the Chocolate Starts to melt. Throw in your Fruit and mix. Its a bit high in sugar so I tend to keep this to a minimum.

Paleo Snacks on the Go

These are for emergencies. For me it usually involves going out for Lunch or Dinner and knowing that the meal is going to get later than I am used to. The solution? Grab one of these on the way out. No need for a plate, no cutlery, no mess. Easy, Portable and just right. You can even store these in a drawer at work for emergencies. For something a bit more substantial and that doesn’t need to last too long, have a look at these Paleo Snack Bars.

As a kid I loved to snack and I doubt its any different for the current generation. They eat more or less the same ones we do.
