The Paleo Breakfast Guide - Easy Paleo Breakfast Ideas and Recipes

Easy Paleo Breakfast Ideas

When I started the Paleo diet, my first problem was what do I eat for Breakfast? Its a bigger deal than you think. The trouble starts with what the we have been eating for breakfast all along.

The standard breakfast

The problem is that the average breakfast is usually a processed food fest, dominated by grains. We are talking about everything from oats to hash browns to bagels. In short, its all pretty bad and except for eggs and meat, nothing at all paleo friendly.

So then what do I eat for breakfast?

The most common (and easy) paleo breakfast is simply protein and veggies, just like any other meal on the paleo diet.

The protein: This could be Eggs made whichever way you like it, bacon or and other meat or fish. Leftovers are perfect for this. Cook up a little extra whenever you make dinner and your breakfast protein is done.

The veggies: I usually have a cup or two of veggies every morning. Options are spinach, squash, zucchini. Basically whatever you like. You could even skip the veggies and opt for a simple high protein breakfast of meat and eggs.

If you can’t get your head around this or you don’t react well to food like that in the morning, there are other options.

But that seems like a lot of work!

It is a bit more work. But there are so many ways you can make it easier. And remember even if it takes you longer to prepare, good things are definitely worth the wait. Here are two things you can do make this a little easier:

Cooking ahead: You can make your breakfast in advance. Boil a few eggs, pre-cook some vegetables, make casseroles and frittatas (recipes and options here). For about an hours work on a Sunday you could have most of your breakfast pre-prepared.

Preparation: Cut and clean your veges and keep in tupperware containers in your fridge. With some planning you can prepare your ingredients and keep for whatever you decide to make. When it comes to actually making the meal, it’ll only take minutes.

Leftovers: I use leftovers from dinner for breakfast all the time. Making dinner? make a couple of potions extra for breakfast.

So what do other paleo dieters have for breakfast?

What about other well known folks from the paleo movement? what do they eat? Here are just a few:
Robb Wolf – Bacon & eggs (from the joe rogan podcast)
Mark Sisson – Four eggs (it was in his book somewhere)
Mat LaLonde – Bacon, eggs and some veges (example here)
Michelle Tam – Sausage and eggs with some veges (details here)
Don’t they sound yummy? Seeing a pattern here? This is typically what the paleo greats eat, and so should you.

What about replacements for my normal breakfast?

You obviously don’t have to eat eggs, meat and veges everyday. With a bit of work you can turn out some replacements for everyday breakfast food. There are paleo pancakes, breads and cereal alternatives. They do taste great, but don’t expect them to be the same as the everyday variety. Are they as healthy as the basic paleo breakfast template? maybe not, but sometimes it helps to have something different.
